Restoring the True Colors of History

At The Tradesmen Group, we understand that the finishes and colors of historic buildings and monuments are more than just aesthetic details – they're vital links to our shared cultural heritage. Our team of experts approach each restoration project with meticulous attention to historical accuracy and deep respect for original materials and intent.

Each project begins by identifying the building's authentic components. Soiled surfaces are carefully cleaned to reveal their original properties and beauty. Any necessary repairs are carried out seamlessly, using compatible materials for plaster, wood or metal and time-honored techniques in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Structures and current industry surface preparation standards. To ensure long-term performance for the preservation of these structures and their components, we apply carefully selected treatments and coatings, from high-performance multi-component coatings to breathable mineral silicate coatings, always prioritizing the building's historic integrity in the selection of the treatments and products.

One such example is the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, VA. TTG was honored to be selected by the National Park Service as the conservation contractor for this national treasure. The bronze sculpture was cleaned of blanched wax and other impurities along with the memorial’s granite base with dry sponge-jet techniques. The sculpture was then repaired with silicone bronze welding techniques in several locations before it was treated with two applications of hot wax. The granite plinth base was re-polished with wet/dry polishing methods to restore the original luster to the granite finish.

With every carefully applied treatment, The Tradesmen Group safeguards the true colors of history. Our important Work with Purpose serves as a testament to the power of preservation, celebrating the enduring beauty of our nation's cultural treasures.

An old heritage building with beautiful architecture is a rare sight, but it is more than just a materialistic thing. It holds memories of times when people lived and loved in harmony. It’s a living piece of history that adds value to the community and makes us proud of our roots.
