Hiring Historic Restoration Professionals

The Tradesmen Group LLC (TTG)
seeks a multi-skilled person(s) for work with structural metals, copper sheet metal fabrication (coppersmiths) and carpentry/wood working with at least two years of experience with roof flashing fabrication, metal roofing fabrication, and architectural sheet metal fabrication, including copper and various metals, along with structural steel fabrication and fabrication for architectural wood working to work out of our shop in Plain City, OH. Work will vary day-by-day and week-by-week with the variety of restoration projects undertaken by TTG.

Our footprint has grown to three regional offices located across the Midwest, East Coast, and in the South. Most TTG employees live where they work, though some travel for job assignments, resulting in the company’s sustained commitment to preserving our communities and historic architecture.

What you will do:

  • Operate hand and automated metal, sheet metal and wood fabrication equipment
  • Understand blueprints/drawings/specifications to layout, cut, fabricate, position, and weld/braze or secure parts and units for various metal or sheet metal assemblies
  • Assist in architectural and structural fabrication (copper, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, wood etc.)
  • Fabrication of architectural assemblies including cornices, columns, balustrades, fences, railings, gates, doors, windows, roof cresting and other architectural items
  • Fabrication of decorative sheet metal elements
  • Fabrication of structural shoring for TTG’s structural stabilization work that accompanies many of the restoration projects
  • Assist in architectural fabrication/restoration of wood and composite components
  • Assist in window & door restoration in shop setting
  • Fabrication of decorative architectural elements

Essential job skills & criteria

  • Use of various forms of metal cutting & shearing equipment
  • Use of metal presses and breaks
  • Use of drill press and metal punch equipment
  • Soldering, brazing, and welding (D1.1, D1.2, & D1.6)
  • Use of forklifts and overhead cranes
  • Use of hand tools and & electric hand tools
  • Metal finishing
  • Painting and finish skills
  • Ability to follow blueprints/drawings to meet product specifications
  • Ability to develop & implement design of restoration when plans are not available
  • Ability to work independently when needed without direct supervision and remain on task
  • OSHA 10 training/certification is required prior to job start
