The Tennessee Valley Health Care System (TVHS) is an integrated healthcare system comprised of two main medical center facilities, the Alvin C. York Campus in Murfreesboro TN, and the Nashville Campus in Nashville TN. The Tradesmen Group, Inc. was contracted to develop a restoration strategy (design/build) for several buildings at both the York and Nashville Campuses. The roof replacement portion to this project included a new imitation slate roof system with built-in copper gutters and flashings. The masonry restoration involved multi skilled trades such as masonry tuckpointing, building cleaning, waterproofing, sealant replacement, and lead based paint removal. All services performed in house as the Prime Contractor. Large porch on Building 1 was stripped of lead based paint, had carpentry repaired and was finally repainted. Work included window repairs and restoration on all phases.
This highly complex design/build project involves the restoration of several buildings requiring a variety of skilled trades. The Tradesmen Group employees provided in-house slate roofing, flat roofing, associated sheet metal, masonry restoration including stone reconstruction and resetting.
Project involved removal & replacement of 1,500 squares of EPDM roofing on Building 143 & 2A, removal and replacement of 700 squares of slate roofing on Building 74, Building 143 & east connecting corridors, and replacement of all associate copper gutters. Work also involved various masonry repairs.
The Tradesmen Group, Inc. was contracted to restore the brick and stone masonry on the exterior façade of 7 buildings constructed in the early 1900’s. Wall sections were dismantled and reconstructed. Mortar joints were tuckpointed and coping stones were lifted and relayed. TTG replaced window sills, headers and lintels and associated masonry repairs to these sections of the historic buildings. We replaced six (6) sets of stone steps on various buildings at the VA Medical Center in Canandaigua, NY. The scope of work included; removal of existing limestone steps, terra cotta caps, brick retaining walls, landings, ramps, concrete pads and check walls. Due to the historic nature of these buildings, extreme care was taken to not damage the existing units or surrounding structure. The Tradesmen Group, Inc. re-poured the concrete steps and landings. We reset the limestone steps over the newly poured concrete pads. We repaired, patched and replaced terra cotta caps as required. The cheek walls were re-tuckpointed and cleaned. All work was self performed and completed as per the Department of Interior for historic structures.

The Tradesmen Group, Inc. was awarded a negotiated (RFP) contract for roof replacement at the VAMC, Battle Creek, MI. The work included both flat and steep roof replacements on six buildings throughout the VAMC. New Tremco roof and shingle roof systems were installed in 2007 and scheduled for completion in the spring of 2008.
In 2006, The Tradesmen Group replaced the roof on Building 102 at the Illiana VAMC. The roof replacement project included deck replacement, all associated flashings and a new Duro-Last Roof System.
The scope of work included fabricating and installing new copper gutter and valley with associated Ludowici clay tile roof replacement. We installed a new Carlisle EPDM fully adhered flat roof and new shingle roofs on all connecting corridors
We performed multi skilled trades for several contracts for the VAMC – Dayton, Ohio. The scope of work included roof replacement, roof repair, sheet metal replacement, masonry restoration, window replacement and repairs, lead based paint abatement and painting as well as other skilled trades on historic buildings located throughout the campus.
The Department of Veteran's Affairs contracted with The Tradesmen Group to perform interior building renovations of the emergency rooms and nuclear medicine lab. The interior design changes included new walls, ceiling, flooring, interior finishes, electrical and mechanical of occupied spaces. The security upgrades included CCTV installation, mechanical door locks.
Over 17,000 veterans in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and northeastern Wisconsin rely upon the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center for their health care. Three hundred and fifty staff, including 23 physicians and over100 nurses provide primary and selected secondary care. The Tradesmen Group, Inc. performed masonry restoration, building cleaning and preservation as well as window restoration services. All skilled trades were self-performed to ensure that the guidelines were maintained as set forth by the Department of the Interior for the restoration of buildings listed on the National Register for Historic Places. The Tradesmen Group is currently under contract to perform design/build services for the renovation of the 4th floor of the Medical Center at the VAMC – Martinsburg, VA. This renovation will require several phases of construction and coordination of subcontractors to accommodate the requirements of a full service hospital.
The Tradesmen Group, Inc. was contracted to restore the Chapel at Martinsburg VAMC in a design/build project. TTG took plans from 85% complete thru final design and construction. Work included complete renovation of the front lobby and restroom; balcony; vestry and east corridor and restroom areas. New vinyl and tile flooring, wall finishes and finish carpentry was installed. Doors were restored. Stain glass windows were repaired and painted. A new roof was installed. Steeple was entirely re-clad with new exterior finish carpentry to match original design. Masonry was restored. Project also included interior and exterior lead paint abatement.
