Nashville National Cemetery Boundary Wall Rehabilitation

The Tradesmen Group LLC (TTG) was selected by the National Park Service (NPS) Historic Preservation Training Center on behalf of the National Cemetery Administration (NCA) to undertake the comprehensive rehabilitation of the historic boundary wall at the Nashville National Cemetery.

This project involved extensive stone masonry work and showcased TTG’s expertise in large-scale historic preservation.

Wall Reconstruction and Repair

  • Significant dismantling, reconstruction, and repair of the stone boundary wall
  • Total reconstruction of selected wall sections, including:
    • Substantial excavation for new concrete footers and retaining walls
    • Movement of over 950 tons of stone and overburden
  • Installation of over 680 cubic feet of new cut limestone caps
  • Spot stone replacement and tuckpointing for remaining wall sections

Masonry Work

  • Utilization of NHL 3.5 mortar imported from Germany
  • Use of over 2,700 bags of mortar for all tuckpointing and stone-laying operations

Foundation Work

  • Extensive excavation to form and pour new concrete footers
  • Construction of retaining walls for stone wall sections requiring total reconstruction
