Ashley U.S. Federal Courthouse

The Tradesmen Group (TTG) is proud to have been entrusted with the exterior masonry and window restoration of the historic Ashley U.S. Federal Courthouse. This project showcases our expertise in preserving architectural heritage and ensuring the longevity and functionality of these significant public buildings.

The Tradesmen Group was selected by the General Services Administration (GSA) to undertake a restoration of the Ashley U.S. Federal Courthouse’s historic sandstone masonry and wood windows. Our scope of work included:

Assessment & Consulting

  • Teaming with Quinn Evans Architects for the design-build project 

Carpentry Services

  • Full restoration of the original wood windows, including hazardous material abatement and treatment of moisture-damaged wood

Masonry Restoration

  • Extensive sandstone masonry repairs on the first and second-floor levels 
  • Tuckpointing, stone honing dress back and retooling, masonry cleaning, and stone patch repairs 
  • Complex Dutchman repairs on sandstone fluted columns
  • Careful dismantling, salvage, and replacement of sandstone courses at the foundation level that involved mending processes for stone with significant damage from original ferrous anchors

As the prime contractor, TTG performed all masonry preservation services in-house, demonstrating our commitment to quality service and superior craftsmanship. Our team’s attention to detail and respect for historic fabric and integrity ensured this important landmark was restored to its former glory – and important safety and preservation standards were achieved.
