Director of Vertical Access, Shoring & Hoisting

As a 100% employee-owned company and winner of the SAIA 2025 Commercial Collaborative Project of the Year, The Tradesmen Group seeks to fill a new strategic executive position serving both The Tradesmen Group & Tradesmen Crane & Equipment.

This role will lead TTG’s self-performed scaffold, shoring and hoisting on multi-trade restoration projects throughout the eastern half of the U.S., and third-party scaffold, shoring and hoisting services for TCE in central Ohio and emerging markets in Nashville and Washington, D.C. This position requires high-level leadership for both business development and operational excellence and will be rewarded by working on some of our nation’s most historic structures while benefiting from the company’s Work With Purpose culture that builds value for clients and employee-owners alike.

Position Requirements

Education, Experience & Abilities

  • Four-year degree in construction management, engineering, or similar field, or commensurate experience in the construction vertical access and shoring industry
  • Industry certifications including SAIA competent persons, OSHA 30, etc.
  • Proven experience as a strategic senior leader in the vertical access, shoring and hoisting industry
  • Strong knowledge of construction logistics, DOT regulations, craning and hoisting
  • Experience and proficiency in cost estimating, cost analysis, budgeting, and forecasting for vertical access project development
  • Experience and proficiency with proposal and contract/agreement drafting, preparation and review.
  • Experience and proficiency with project development, scheduling and preparation of CPM schedules, managing and updating of schedules using MS Project or similar programs
  • Excellent leadership, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic thinking and decision-making
  • Willingness to undergo a background check & drug screen
  • Proficient in using personal computer and software for all professional duties and responsibilities
  • Strong Microsoft Office experience – including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Office365 & Teams
  • Strong planning and analytical skills
  • Ability to faithfully and fully conduct all described duties & responsibilities in representation of the company

Roles, Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manage and conduct TTG and TCE company operations related to vertical access, shoring and hoisting that support TTG’s primary restoration and general contracting business ventures. Operations are based out of Plain City, OH with satellite offices in Joelton, TN and Dumfries, VA serving Nashville and greater southeastern US, the National Capital Region and the east coast. Tradesmen Crane & Equipment (TCE) scaffold and equipment business ventures take place in those regions and additional future markets.
  • Lead and directly engage medium & large vertical access, shoring and hoisting projects to ensure compliance with contract performance including safety, quality, budget, schedule, owner coordination & satisfaction; including direct hands-on engagement when required to facilitate operational success
  • Successfully track and achieve daily, weekly and monthly operational and production goals to meet project and company earnings projections
  • Manage and conduct TTG/TCE’s yard, shop, warehouse and office operations related to vertical access, shoring and hoisting including all equipment and facilities at company headquarters in Plain City and Raymond, OH, and at satellite locations in Joelton, TN and Dumfries, VA, plus other future locations as applicable
  • In coordination with TTG/TCE’s corporate contracting team, manage contracting & sales endeavors for vertical access, shoring and hoisting throughout all current and future markets with the ability to contract new projects and achieve revenue goals year over year
  • Manage and oversee all company employees related to vertical access, shoring and hoisting in coordination with TTG/TCE’s corporate executive, management, operations and HR teams
  • Manage, conduct and promote growth and development of TTG/TCE’s operations through engagement with employee recruitment, training and retention
  • Manage safety and oversee awareness and mitigation of risks throughout all company operations related to vertical access, shoring and hoisting
  • Manage, conduct and coordinate with TTG/TCE’s corporate team for all administrative and operational matters related to vertical access, shoring and hoisting operations including but not limited to employee payroll, accounts payable and receivable, insurance matters, equipment and property leases, maintenance and management of equipment and property
  • Collaborate and support TTG/TCE’s corporate team for PR and marketing efforts, both internal and external
  • Attend, participate and occasionally lead internal operation and production meetings and external company project meetings
  • Attend pre-proposal site visits and evaluate projects for contract opportunities
  • Lead and handle post-award contract document processing including post-award submittals, design and engineering
  • Attend project pre-construction and progress meetings as applicable (virtual and in-person)
  • Lead development of design and engineering for new projects
  • Develop and manage project schedules including baseline schedules and two-look-ahead schedule with self-performing trade crew, fabrication operations and subcontractors as applicable
  • Develop and implement site mobilization, logistics and access plans
  • Lead sourcing and buyout of materials, supplies and equipment for projects
  • Coordination and management of project staffing and related HR requirements for projects and company operations, including assistance with interviews and recruitment of qualified persons as applicable
  • Manage and oversee company equipment maintenance, service and care
  • Lead and oversee change orders related to existing projects

  • Lead and mentor the vertical access, shoring and hoisting team/division for succession and leadership development of others

  • Human Resources & Team Building
    • Collaborate with HR for development of company HR policies and systems as they may impact financial health of the company
    • Assist with development and advancement of company and ESOP culture through internal communications
  • Operational & Production Development
    • Assist with development and advancement of company production and operational capabilities in both volume and technical capacity
    • Assist with streamlining company operations and efficiencies
  • Growth & Expansion
    • Analysis of company equipment utilization; implement plans for optimized utilization of company equipment through service development and expansion plans
    • Assist with market research for expansion to new physical markets and to enter new market segments
    • Assist with development of financial modeling for expansion & growth of vertical access, shoring and hoisting services
    • Development of TTG & TCE company organizational models for growth related to vertical access, shoring and hoisting
  • Other duties as assigned by TTG/TCE corporate executive team
